D>O>D Celebration!!!

These are some pictures from the photo station table during the Day of the Dead celebration. It was a great event and I am glad that we get to have it every year. Casilda did a great job organizing everything and it turned out to be one of the biggest turnouts we have had in a long time. Great Job!!

This skull is based off Mike Giants's designs.

Polaroids are amazing!!!
I love La Casa Latina.

Dia de Los Muertos!!! (aka Day Of The Dead)

This is a piece I did for the Day Of The Dead Celebration on Oct. 28th. It is about 8 feet high by 5 feet wide. Thanks to Tory for helping me paint. This actual piece is part of the photo station table which I will be running. I will be taking polaroids of people from 1-4pm. Thank you to Casilda for organizing a huge program. I will take pictures of the event and post them later. Enjoy

This is the back of the shirt for the Health Nuts, a group on campus that is part of the Wellness Program. Bright colors are my favorite.

4 MURALS DONE!!!

WOw. After a long day of painting all four walls are finally done. I am looking forward to the unveiling. I am proud to show people a part of me and a field in which I am extremely interested in. The actual speed of the project also makes me feel good as I was able to create four distinct murals without ever feeling overwhelmed. I don't consider myself an artist. I am a stencilist. This project was another way of stretching my imagination and challenging myself to learn new techniques. The walls are an extension of what I am feeling and the experiences that I have been through. Since I can not speak to every person at Drew at one time I figure I can do it through images. People like pictures!!! Enjoy and thank you for all of your support.

Off to the next project. Not sure what it is yet but I am sure it will be interesting.

Unveiling Date Set!!!

The date has been set for the unveiling of the four murals. Markit down OCT 25th!!!! I proposed this event for two reasons. 1st: I wanted to have the entire Drew community a chance to see the murals. 2nd: I wanted to find a way that said I officially finished the murals. It should be a good event and a ton of people will be invited. It will also be during Wednesday lunch which is extremely busy. Thank you for all of your support.

Div# 2 Done Completely

It was a pretty long day painting but I was able to get a lot done and the first divider=2murals are DONE. They have been covered up with paper until the day of the unveiling. It should be a great event. Click on image to view larger. R.I.P. Casio Exilim Camera

There is a lot more detail on this wall than there was before. I hope people enjoy it. The mural was very simple before but now it has more of a classic feel to it.
This wall has been on of my favorites to work on. It sets a real intimate feel for the room and the way the lights hit the pink is amazing. You could even create your own story of what is going on in the mural.

Family Weekend!!

Here is a picture of the banner I made for Family Weekend. The good news is that the banner looks pretty nice and really bright pink. The bad news is my camera broke right before taking the picture so we had to use a camera phone. Technology is my friend but it just broke my feelings.
Here is the actual banner outside of the UC. Click on the image to view larger.

New Mural!!! Div # 2 Back

WoOW. This is one of the final mural designs for the Commons. There are outlines that you can see on the right hand side which show some of the final touches to the mural. Hopefully I can meet the deadline of next Wednesday and have an unveiling. I have proposed the event for that date and if things go well it should be a great time. As I finish each wall entirely, I will be coverign them up with paper until all four are done. Click on the image to see it larger. Enjoy

***Explanation on the Walls: All four murals are inspired by a wide variety of things. It came up in conversation with a professor that I had inadvertently chosen images from trips and experiences in my life. This was extremely true since I had placed images from my trips to London, China, and Paris. All four walls are a self expression of my voyages and what I have taken away from them. I am truly lucky to have been given the opportunity to travel and it is something I could never repay. Thank You.

Update!!! Div #1 Back

Here is a quick update on one of the four murals in the Commons. I worked on the background pattern and the fountain. I wanted to put more detail on the more private sections of the Commons to give it a more intimate feel. There are still a couple of things that need to be done but the bulk of the work has been done. Please Comment. Click on the images to see them larger.

Another Satisfied Customer!!!

I am doing this new project where I would like people who buy from my online store to send me pictures of what they bought and themselves in interesting poses. You can send me pictures at vgarcia@drew.edu. Here is the first of hopefully many to come: KEEP THEM COMING!!!

For the Commons's murals I am doing a tribute wall to Ble le Rat. I was extremely lucky to meet Blek while in Paris in 2004. I learned a great deal about cutting stencils and images that people could connect to. He pioneered the use of stencils as street art in the early 1980s. If you would like to see more of his work feel free to go to: http://www.bleklerat.tk/

Div#2 Front

This is the second mural I started to work on. I think it looks great. Once you enter the commons your feel like there is someone actually on the wall. Click on any image so see it larger.

I do the majority of the outlines while everyone is away from the Commons. Once people start eating that is when I start painting. I enjoy everyone who watches and talk about how the wall is coming along. It makes me more proud of my work.

I feel like the mural is done and looks really good like this. I am trying to keep things simple and not have it be as busy as when we did The Space Murals. Who knows??? I think I will add some simple designs for the background on the bottom.

Div#1 Back

Here are some images from the back of the first Divider in the Commons. This was all done today. It is still not done but I will add a flower pattern to Blek's dancers and water to the fountain. Enjoy. Click on any image to see it larger.

The left side is a tribute wall of Blek Le Rat. I was lucky to mee him in Paris and he is the pioneer of the stencil art movement. I have learned a lot from his work.
